Here Sweetie..have a little more pesticide!

Ok, If you know Mike and I even a little you know that we are "Greenies". We eat as organic as possible in this limited option town (Lord we miss Austin). We buy all natural, plant derived cleaners, detergents, and toiletries. We haven't bought bottled water in who knows how long. And we have and almost non-existent beef intake.

With Grace we are even more picky. She has never been washed with anything but an all natural, organic baby wash, her diaper cream is all natural, and her clothes are washed in a plant derived detergent. I breast fed exclusively for 9 weeks and when we switched to formula it has ALWAYS been an Organic, no additives brand. You can imagine now that I am starting her with solid foods we are being just as nerotic :). I make all of her organic banana's at home, roasting them (they are quite yummy). We also buy a couple different Organic brands (earths best & sprout).

But as she is getting older I am really noticing the lack of options for babies.... I mean COME ON!!! Gerber makes, baby Macaroni and Cheese dinner, Peach Cobbler, Vanilla Custard, Beef and Macaroni (double yuck). It's a little rediculous. Why in the world does a 7 month old need dessert?? Let alone HAMBURGER MEAT!! No wonder the only vegetable most children under the age of 4 see everyday is a french fry. Sorry for the opinionated blog.. just a little frustrated at the limited options and that someone who wants to feed their child naturally has 75% less options than the person filling their shopping cart with Cheeto's and Hotdogs for their childs lunch...

Just a little FYI for you non-organic folks:

Organic purchases that do make sense include these fruits and vegetables: apples, bell peppers, celery, cherries, imported grapes, nectarines, peaches, pears, potatoes, red raspberries, spinach strawberries, and tomatos. Labeled the "dirty dozen" by the Washington, D.C.-based Environmental Working Group, conventionally grown versions of these products tend to be laden with pesticides.

Also, organic meat, poultry, eggs and dairy are sensible buys. What you'll get is minimized exposure to potential toxins in non organic feed. You'll also avoid the results of production methods that use daily supplemental hormones and antibiotics, which have been linked to increased antibacterial resistance in humans.

Organic baby food is another safe bet. Children's developing bodies are especially vulnerable to toxins, and they may be at risk for higher exposure. Baby food is often made up of condensed fruits or vegetables, potentially concentrating pesticide residues.

The new study shows that organic milk has 60 to 80 per cent more nutrients in the summer than conventional milk, and 50 to 60 per cent more in the winter.

■Organic milk also has higher levels of vitamin E.
■Organic cheese can have up to twice as many nutrients than conventional varieties.
■Organic wheat, tomatoes, potatoes, cabbage, onions and lettuce had between 20 and 40 per cent more nutrients.

What does this mean for your baby? If you purchase Organic produce and other Organic foods, your baby will not only be exposed to zero to lower levels of pesticides, your baby may indeed benefit from more nutrients. Homemade baby food is said to offer more nutrients due to its lack of over-cooking and processing. Using Organic foods will boost up more nutrients in homemade baby foods.

Asthma and Eczema

SOoo our little Grace has been a little under the weather since sunday! Weezing, sneezing, coughing, and whining. We went to Urgent care monday evening and they told us it was a Virus and a Rash(on her tummy), no RSV, lungs clear, ears clear! They gave us an antihistamine(yay) and a cream. So she goes to daycare today and straight up REFUSES to take anything from the bottle. SO all day long she only took 3 oz! she normally takes a 4 oz in the morning then 3, 8oz bottles at daycare! So back to the doctor we went. They said her ears were clear but she was definatly weezing. She starts weezing it seems like everytime the weather changes or she gets a little sick, so they diagnosed us with Asthma and gave us a steroid treament to start. They also said the rash looked like Eczema. Soooo the good news is she doesn't have an infection in her lungs or ears BUT it looks like the Asthma is here to stay (at least when its cold outside). She can't get enough air when she takes a bottle so that explains that.

Honey do's

I love.....
That I never have to take out the trash
That he'll eat ANYTHING I make.
That if Im not home at the exact time I'm supposed to be, he calls to make sure I'm ok :)
That he cleans and cleans and cleans...
BUT most of all he makes me LAUGH!!!!

I love...(mike again)
That she doesn't make me take out the trash
That she asks me what I want to eat
That she checks on me too
That she helps
But most of all she LAUGHS at my jokes...
But even more than that I love that I am married to my best friend.

(try and top that one baby)

Ode to Valentines day..

Poll.... Do you think Valentines is a commercial gimmick?

On one hand I do. Who needs a box of chocolates and a singing gorrillia to say I love you..? Not me thats for sure. And in our house an abundance of candy is a curse, an ugly reminder that a diet is inevitable (remember who I married). Carnations are cheap and a little stinky and all flowers will die within the week. Diamonds are out of the budget, and cards these days are a little on the corny side. BUT....

On the other hand. There is nothing more cute than a husband trying to pick out a card for his wife, and it's always fun to have a date night every once in a while. I enjoy knowing I was thought of sweetly (who doesn't?).

ANYWAYS HAPPY VALENTINES WEEK!! I've got to get "valentines" for Grace's class (HAHA) she's having a party. (I know what your thinking and those are my thoughts exactly.)

On to the "why I love Mikey" part of the blog~

HE Does 98% of the LAUNDRY!!!! Yep you're jealous!!! I have nothing more to say..... LOVE YOU BABE!!!

HA...more like 100% (this is Mike again), she must be counting 2% when she covers herself with the warm clothes from the dryer while I fold them and put them away. Thats OK she does all the cooking and thank God for that or we would be having cereal every night.

Any who...I love Kim because she likes to go to bed early. I know that seems silly, but when you have to get up every day at 6 AM (Grace), its nice to feel rested. Sometimes its the small things that really add up...LOVE YOU TOO!

Lovie Lovie!

Ok I'm going with the valentines blog trend and posting what I LOVE most about my hubby today.

hmm... I love that every morning he gets up with Grace and gets her ready for the day, but what I love most about that is that I can hear him talking to her in the other room. Telling her good morning, making her laugh, talking to her in funny voices :). Its super cute, and such a great bonding time for them. He's such a great daddy :)

My turn to be corny...(this is Mike by the way) I love that despite our hectic schedule, Kim always finds the time to make sure Grace is happy and I am calm (she knows what I mean). Kim is the glue of our family, and without her Grace and I would be a mess. Although most people may consider me to be the structured one, it is in fact Kim that holds the family together, and for that I am truly grateful and forever in love. Happy Valentines Day to my best friend, beautiful wife, and amazing mother of our daughter Grace.

Superbowl Sunday!

Superbowl! We were cheering on the Colts, the girls had matching hairbows and all!! We had Sara's yummy chili and just about everything you can imagine to dip into a big pot of chocolate fondue! All calorie free of course "wink wink".

Madison had a little static cling to her hair and by the look on her face she thought it was super funny!
Miss Grace sporting her Colts hairbow and Mommies eyes :)
Mike and Brian acting crazy, Brian's pre-chemo hair cut! It looks good! Big Hugs and Prayers for Brian!

Funny ladies!

talking with my mouth full...

6 months old, sitting and playing with her toys :) She loves to empty all of the toys from the bucket!
